The Rosehill trials on Thursday morning featured four heats that were won by juveniles and two of those winners were by Ole Kirk, while an unraced Home Affairs filly continues to show potential with her second trial win.
The Terry Croft trained Ole Kirk filly Thrill Hunter was a debut winner at Randwick back in the spring and was having her first trial since finishing unplaced in the $1million ATC Golden Gift. She was very professional as you would expect and led all the way to win with well bred Zoustar colt Lorax in second at his second trial, but first this prep.
Lorax is a full brother to last Saturday’s G3 Manfred Stakes winner Space Rider and also to G3 winner Brereton, so has plenty of pedigree to back him up.
The quickest of the 900m heats was won by the John O’Shea and Tom Charlton trained Home Affairs filly Coco Affair, who is now two for two at the trials. She did a good job to keep her head in front of the Chris Waller trained Snitzel colt Campione D’Italia, who was ridden along by James McDonald with five lengths back to the third horse.
Coco Affair is from Cocoa Doll, a winning half-sister to Champion 2YO Filly Away Game, so there is plenty in the pedigree to back up what she is showing at the trials.
Mill Park will offer the half-brother by Zoustar to Coco Affair at Inglis Premier as Lot 562.
The third heat at 900m was won by the Brad Widdup trained Snitzel colt Tenenbaum, who was only sixth on debut in the 900m Max Lees Classic at Newcastle, but does have a pedigree that would indicate further would be better as he is a brother to HK Derby winner Cap Ferrat.
He led all the way and won by three-quarters of a length over expensive Snitzel colt Attorney General, who was given a rev up and was also interested in third placed Tron Bolt, who topped the Inglis Ready 2 Race Sale last year when fetching $900,000.
Tenenbaum has a full brother going to Inglis Easter for Arrowfield as Lot 241.
The 1030m trial went to the Peter Snowden trained Ole Kirk colt Short Sea, who was having his third trial and second this prep and appreciated a bit more ground coming from back in the field to win by a long neck.
A $170,000 Magic Millions purchase from North Bloodstock, Short Sea is the third foal of Steamboat Sally, a winning half-sister by Snitzel to Group II winner Gunnison from Group II winner Colorado Claire.
