Winx trials, Chautauqua bombs

Breednet - Monday July 23
Champion mare Winx turned in a pleasing performance in her first barrier trial this campaign while Chautauqua may have brought the curtain down on his career at Rosehill on Monday morning.

WinxIn a heat which contained six Group One winners among the 10 entrants, Winx was set no serious task by regular rider Hugh Bowman, going to the line under a hold to finish seventh behind Golden Slipper and Moir Stakes winner She Will Reign.

Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes winner Takedown finished second while Gr1 Randwick Guineas winner Kementari turned in a particularly eye-catching effort for third.

The heat also featured Victoria Derby and Spring Champion Stakes winner Ace High who finished midfield without being unduly stressed.

For the fifth time now, Chautauqua failed to leave the gates which is surely going to make it hard for connections to find a solution and continue with his career which has netted six Group One wins and $8.8million in prizemoney.

The Winx team of trainer Chris Waller and rider Hugh Bowman were both satisfied with the effort of Winx who will barrier trial again before resuming in the race named in her honour, the Group One Winx Stakes (Formerly Warwick Stakes), 1400m on August 18.
