Entries Closing for Australasia's Leading 2YO Sale

Media Release - Monday August 14

Entries are closing soon for New Zealand Bloodstock's Ready to Run Sale of  2YO's – the most successful sale of its kind in Australasia – with a deadline of Friday 18 August.

The 35th New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale at Karaka is set to showcase the top-quality racehorses that a truly international buying bench has come to revere.

Boasting a formidable record both in the sale ring and on race tracks around the globe, NZB's Sale is the pinnacle of two-year-old sales in Australasia.

An unmatched record of success on the track has seen an impressive 62 graduates of the Sale win 110 stakes races over the past five seasons. This includes a staggering 19 Group 1 wins in the same period, where Australian sale companies have produced only one.

Last year records tumbled for a fifth consecutive year with the aggregate, average and median all up on 2015's record results, setting new benchmarks for two-year-old sales in Australasia.

The $20 million mark was surpassed for the second time in the Sale's history last year with an aggregate of $28,393,000 reached for 294 horses sold.

The average climbed to $96,575, surpassing 2015's record of $92,002 by 5%, while the median increased to $70,000, up 17% from the record of $60,000 set at the previous two editions of the Sale.

The presence of a strong international buying bench is nothing new to Karaka and the two-year-old Sale has often been the stomping ground of buyers from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, and Australia.

In 2016, buyers from Australia spent $2.8m more on horses than 2015, topping the spend by country for the fourth consecutive year, securing 77 horses for a total of a little over $10m.

Purchasers from Hong Kong bought 51 horses for a total of $7,219,500. The leading buyer from Hong Kong was trainer Ricky Yiu, who was the second leading buyer across the two days, purchasing five horses for a total of $1,015,000.

Local buyers purchased the largest number of horses, securing 94 lots for a total spend of $6,584,000, spearheaded by Te Akau's David Ellis.

GingernutsAnother record set in 2016 was the number of horses to be sold for $300,000 or more with 13 horses reaching that mark, an increase from the 10 sold in 2015 which was a record in itself. There were a record 42 horses that sold for $200,000 or more, surpassing the 32 lots that sold for that price or more in 2015.

These Sale results are a reflection of the outstanding performance by NZB graduates on racetracks around the world. The Sale has been a consistent source of racetrack performers in New Zealand, Australia and throughout Asia.

Flying the flag for the Ready to Run Sale this season were Group 1 winners Gingernuts(NZ) (Iffraaj) and Hall of Fame (NZ) (Savabeel), both purchased by Te Akau Racing at the 2015 Sale.

Dual Group 1 winner Gingernuts triumphed on both sides of the Tasman in his three-year-old season with the Group 1 New Zealand Derby and Group 1 Rosehill Guineas.

Also achieving Group 1 success was Hall of Fame who claimed the Group 1 Levin Classic making it the third consecutive year that a graduate of the Sale won the Group 1 three-year-old feature following wins by Dukedom (NZ) (Bachelor Duke) in 2016 and Gaultier – Simply Invincible (NZ) (Rios) in 2015.

Star graduates include Listed Patron's Bowl and Steward's Cup winner Alibi(NZ) (Darci Brahma), Singapore 3YO Classic and 3YO Sprint winner Countofmontecristo(NZ) (Echoes of Heaven), Gold Cup and El Dorado Classic winner Bahana(NZ) (Elusive City), and 2017 Singapore Horse of the Year Debt Collector (NZ) (Thorn Park) the winner of the Raffles Cup, Kranji Mile and Jumbo Jet Trophy.

The statistics speaks for themselves when it comes to determining the number one marketplace for two-year-olds. To get the best return for your two-year-olds enter your horses in Australasia's most successful two-year-old Sale: NZB's Ready to Run Sale of 2YOs.
