Multiple Champion Sire Encosta De Lago Dies At Coolmore Aged 25

It's been a life well lived for champion sire Encosta de Lago.

champion sire Encosta de Lago It is with great sadness that Coolmore announces the passing of Encosta De Lago at the age of 25. 

A multiple champion sire and current reigning champion broodmare sire, Encosta De Lago will be remembered as one of the greatest Australian-bred sires of all time. 

Sire of an incredible 26 Group 1 winners worldwide, his progeny have amassed in excess of $180million in prize money, with top performers including the likes of world champion sprinters Chautauqua and Sacred Kingdom, champion miler Racing To Win, champion two and three year-old filly Alinghi and champion sprinting mare English.

Coolmore Australia Principal, Tom Magnier, paid tribute by saying: "'Encosta' will be greatly missed by all who dealt with him at Coolmore over the last 14 years. He was a horse with a beautiful nature and we were incredibly lucky to have him. His legacy will live on through his sire line descendents like Zoustar and Rubick, as well as through his daughters, who have already made him champion broodmare sire."
