Group One Goal for Snitzel's I Am Excited

Mark Smith - Saturday April 27

Snitzel's fast-finishing daughter I Am Excited claimed the scalp of Snitzel's outstanding sprinting son Redzel in Saturday's Group II Victory Stakes at Eagle Farm.

The David Pfieffer-trained mare defeated the odds-on favourite by three-quarters of a length with a further one and a half lengths back to Jonker in third.

Third behind Impending in the same race 12 months ago, I Am Excited won the Group II Gilgai Stakes at Flemington last spring (images Grant Courtney ) to add to wins in the Listed Darby Munro Stakes at Rosehill and the Listed Fireball Stakes at Randwick.

The 4yo daughter of Snitzel advances her record to 6 wins, 2 seconds and 6 thirds from 20 starts with earnings of $743,325.

"I think she could miss the Doomben 10,000 and head on to the Kingsford Smith Cup. But we don't usually make final plans after a race," Pfieffer told AAP .

"She hadn't been suited by the wet tracks in Sydney and back on a dry track today she was better suited."

Pfieffer said the Group 1 Tatts Tiara on June 22 could be the mares grand final.

"She is already a valuable broodmare but that would skyrocket if we can get a Group One with her," he said.

A half-sister to the Group III VRC Frances Tressady Stakes winner Flippant (Hinchinbrook), I Am Excited is the second stakes-winner from the first three foals of the General Nediym mare Lady Beckworth.

Purchased by Newgate Farm's Henry Field, on behalf of SF Bloodstock, for $400,000 at the 2016 Bell River Thoroughbreds dispersal, Lady Beckworth is a half-sister to Regard (Zabeel) whose only two foals were the superstar Atlantic Jewel (Fastnet Rock) and Group 1 winner Commanding Jewel (Commands).

Newgate Farm consigned a full brother to Flippant and a half to I Am Excited at the 2018 Easter Yearling Sale where he was knocked down to China Horse Club / WinStar Farm / Raffles Racing for $300,000.

Lady Beckworth missed in 2016 but she has a weanling I Am Invincible colt and was covered by Snitzel's son Russian Revolution last spring.
