Fourth G1 Winner for Hinchinbrook

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 4
The tragic loss last year of Yarraman Park's Hinchinbrook was highlighted at Morphettville on Saturday when his brilliant sprinting daughter Spright captured the Group I SAJC Sangster Stakes.

Spright - image Steve HartAn elite 1200 metre sprint for fillies and mares, it was first run as a Group I in 2005 when won by champion filly Alinghi and since then has been won by some outstanding mares including Black Caviar, Response (dam of Golden Slipper winner Estijaab), Driefontein, Miracles of Life and Shoals.

The Garry Frazer trained mare put her name in the record book with a barnstorming victory, charging home from near last to race clear and win by more than a length.

"The first quarter didn't seem that fast and I felt I was further back than I would have liked," said winning rider Damien Oliver.

"You can't push her to go before she's ready and I had to back her finish.

"Her last 200 to 300 metres is amazing and inside the 200 I just hoped she could come over the top of them as she did.

"This mare is so consistent at this level."

Spright has been second, third and fourth in Group I sprints this season and this win might not be her last at the elite level.

"She needs genuine pace and she needs clear running," said Garry Frazer's son Jordan, who has been looking after the mare in Adelaide.

"Ollie had her in a good spot to pounce.

"She worked on Tuesday morning as good as she can do and she'll be there for the Goodwood now."

HinchinbrookSpright was a $100,000 Inglis Premier II purchase from the Grange Thoroughbreds draft making her the highest priced filly sold in that part of the sale and has won six of 29 starts earning over $1.2 million in prizemoney for her owners who include members of the White family in whose famous white and purple colours she runs.

Spright was a successful pinhook having been bought as a weanling by Gary Mudgway for just $12,000 at the Inglis Select Weanling Sale.

A half-sister to Group III placed Mine Two, Spright is the third winner from Dashoff, who comes from the family of Group I winner Ideal Planet.

Spright is the fourth Group I winner for Hinchinbrook, who has 15 entries for the upcoming Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
