Snitzel's Spending To Win Sparkles in Starlight Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday November 30

The six-year-old Snitzel gelding Spending To Win earned a maiden stakes win when leading all the way in Saturday’s Listed Starlight Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill, which would have been welcomed at Willow Park Stud, who will consign his half-sister by the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January.

With Tim Clark in the saddle, Spending To Win led at every call to defeat Glenall (Redoute’s Choice) by a long-head with the favourite Handle The Truth (Star Witness) another length away in third.Spending To Win hangs on - image Steve Hart

"It wasn't the plan (to lead)," co-trainer Peter Snowden told AAP.

"He is the sort of horse, especially fresh, he always over-races and can leave himself short so I was kicking stones.

"When he kicked on the corner I said, 'he's going to give this a good shake' because he had three trials going into it.

"We normally only give him one or two but there were no suitable races for him so I gave him a good platform to work from.

"That was full of courage there today. He probably ran out of gas the last 50 or 100 metres but he did enough to win."

Carrying the familiar colours of Trevor Stuckey and Penny Yan-Stuckey, Spending To Win advanced his record to 5 wins, 8 seconds and 5 thirds from 29 starts with earnings of $458,300.

Purchased by Snowden Racing for $300,000 out of the Widden Stud draft at the 2015 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale, Spending To Win is the best of two winners out of Invincible Spirit’s Group II Flying Childers Stakes winner Madame Trop Vite (IRE).Spending To Win a $300,000 yearling

Madame Trop Vite (IRE) has a 2yo Not A Single Doubt colt who was purchased by Beamish Bloodstock for $150,000 at this year’s Magic Millions.

Following her Gold Coast bound yearling filly from the first crop of Capitalist, Madame Trop Vite (IRE) foaled another filly by the Golden Slipper winner on October 9.

Spending To Win becomes the 93rd stakes-winner for Arrowfield Stud’s champion stallion Snitzel who has 57 lots catalogued for the Magic Millions.
