Two To Follow - Kembla Grange

Mark Smith - Thursday May 7

It was a good day at the office at Kembla Grange on Thursday for Godolphin and Kathy O’Hara who combined to win with the 2yo Snitzel colt Andermatt and the 3yo Epaulette filly Chanting who are both out of Darley Stud’s top broodmares who sadly died just over a month apart in 2019.Andermatt is a son of the top-class mare Portillo - image Mark Smith

The 2yo colt Andermatt started the ball rolling with a highly impressive career debut when coming from last to defeat the Unencumbered filly Either Oar by three-quarter of a length with the Foxwedge filly Blossom Starone a quarter length back in third.

The son of Snitzel is a half-brother to the Group II ATC Surround Stakes winner Ghisoni (Lonhro) out of the former top racemare Portillo.

The winner of the Group II STC Magic Night Stakes and Group II AJC Surround Stakes, Portillo was purchased by Woodlands Stud for $850,000 out of the Tyreel Stud draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

A half-sister to the Group 1 AJC The Galaxy winner Snowland and the dual Listed stakes-winner Snippetson, the daughter of Red Ransom (USA) was out of the wonderful producer Snowdrift (FR) a half-sister to the dam of Myboycharlie (FR)Chanting is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 winner Holler image Steve Hart

Following a long and successful career at stud, Snowdrift (FR) died a month after her daughter.

Portillo’s final foal is a yearling filly by Medaglia d’Oro (USA) named Camplin.

Andermatt is the 5th 2yo winner for Snitzel in the past 12 days.

Like Andermatt, the 3yo Epaulette filly Chanting came with a barnstorming finish from last to defeat the Artie Schiller gelding Art Cadeau by a nose with the Snitzel colt Snitzify a short-half-head back in third in a thrilling finish to the class 1 over 1200 metres.

It was the second win for the lightly raced James Cummings-trained filly who had broken her maiden at Newcastle impressively before being narrowly edged out at Kembla on April 18.

Chanting is a three-quarter sister to Group 1 ATC Canterbury Stakes winner and young Darley stallion Holler (Commands) out of the Strategic mare Shouts a half-sister to triple Group 1 winner Yell (Anabaa).

Shouts has a promising 2yo filly by Kermadec named Parakeet who finished second at Randwick when on debut at Canterbury and was sent for a spell after finishing fourth at Newcastle on April 11.

The final foal of Shouts is a yearling full-sister to Chanting named Huzzah.
