Blazejowski Back to His Best in Dillon Stakes

The Greg Eurell-trained Blazejowski made the trip to the winner’s circle for the first time since the Group III Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes almost a year ago when proving much the best in the Listed John Dillon Stakes at Caulfield.

Sporting the Australia Day silks, Jye McNeil launched the son of Dasho For Cash down the centre of the track to defeat Brave Song (Your Song) by one and a quarter lengths with the favourite Viral (Al Maher) a length back in third.

With his second stakes success, Blazejowski advances his record to nine wins, three seconds and two thirds from 23 starts with earnings of $473,050.

Eurell said the 6yo grey gelding had been his own worst enemy of late.

“It has been hard work. He has been terrific at home. He’s faultless, has been very sound, his work has been right up to speed but has been coming to the races and doing a few little things wrong,” Eurell said.

“Carrying that weight he has been making it hard work for himself.

“He has been terrific for everybody. Apart from earlier this prep he has been very, very consistent.

“He is lightly raced and will just poke around this time of year and hopefully we can get him into the right races.”

Bred by Lesa Oldcastle, Blazejowski was purchased by Wayne Elder for just $5,000 at the 2015 Inglis Great Southern Weanling Sale.

Oldcastle had purchased Blazejowski’s dam Ellexcell for the same amount at the 2014 Inglis Great Southern Bloodstock Sale when carrying the future Group III winner.

A winning daughter of Octagonal from the family of Grosveror, Lonhro and Lankan Rupee, Ellexcell has a yearling colt by Ready For Victory and was covered by National Defense (GB) last spring.

Blazejowski is one of ten stakes-winners for the 22yo Secret Savings stallion  Dash For Cash who stood his 18th season at stud last spring, covering nine mares at a fee of $2,750 at Scenic Lodge Thoroughbred Stud.
