Sire Averages for All Sales – Food for Thought Data

Tara Madgwick - Monday April 12

The pointy end of the Australian bloodstock market was highlighted at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale last week where we saw an average price $369,876, but one swallow does not make a summer and when assessing the true commercial performance of any stallion, a look at the overall average for all sales this year is a must.

First let’s take a look at which stallions have had the most yearlings sell, with the list below showing the sires that have had 50 or more yearlings sell at Australian sales.

Click on any sire in the table below to visit that stallion’s Breednet sire page for full sale details making research easy and investigate ANY stallion by using – Find a sire on any stallion page.

Three stallions have had more than 100 yearlings sold in Australia and all have been very profitable for their supporters, when assessing I Am Invincible based on his 2.8 multiple of fee return take into account, his average of $539,445 which is the second highest overall average of all sires.

Below are the Top 30 Sires by average that had 10 or more yearlings sold in Australia and we see Not a Single Doubt at the top of that list.

Not a Single Doubt is a sire that has always over delivered.

Currently the leading sire in the country by earnings, now pensioned Not a Single Doubt is also doing it as a sire with his fertility challenged son Extreme Choice both the leading first season sire and overall two year-old sire.

Extreme Choice may get overrun by his rivals in the latter part of the season as his lack of numbers catches up with him, but there’s no doubt he and his sire have made a remarkable impression on Australian racing and bloodstock this year.

We’ve also sorted our sires by average as a return on multiple of fee, the list below featuring all stallions with 10 or more yearlings sold that returned at least five times service fee.

A record breaking Magic Millions Perth Yearling Sale has resulted in strong results for WA sires Universal Ruler, Snippetson and Demerit with many WA breeders no doubt reaping the rewards of their success from modest service fees.

Victorian based Ilovethiscity is an unsung hero, his yearlings obviously finding a market from a very low service fee with Magic Millions Adelaide generating much of his success aside from his top selling $140,000 yearling that was sold at Inglis Classic.

New Zealand based shuttler Almanzor (Fr) was the out of left field runaway success story among first season sires at Australian sales this year and is reflected here in his nine times service fee across all Australian sales.
