Street Boss Filly Heresy Breaks her Maiden in David Coles Stakes

Mark Smith - Saturday May 15

Darley Stud’s Street Boss (USA) is enjoying an outstanding season with his juveniles.

The James Cummings-trained filly Heresy became the third 2yo stakes-winner of the season for Street Boss (USA) when she overpowered the consistent Headwater gelding Karacasu in Saturday’s Group III SAJC David Coles AM Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville.

Ridden by Damien Oliver, the Godolphin colour-bearer defeated Karacasu by a long-neck with the Magnus gelding Magic Max one and three-quarter lengths back in third.

It was just the second start for Heresy, a luckless second debut at Geelong on April 20.

“It has been a wonderful season for our juveniles, and it’s continuing on until late in the season, stable representative Sean Keogh said.

"This race came around at a good time. Damien and James had a good chat about it, and we said we would take our chance.”

Heresy is the fourth winner from as many to race out of the accomplished New Approach (IRE) mare Montsegur.

The winner of the Group III VRC Thoroughbred Breeders' Stakes, Montsegur is a three-quarter sister to Group III ATC Kindergarten Stakes winner Paulele (Dawn Approach) and a half-sister to Group III ATC Canonbury Stakes-winner Tessera (Medaglia d’Oro).

Street Boss

From the family of Merchant Navy, Legally Bay and Bonaria, Montsegur has a yearling Fastnet Rock filly named Pereille and a weanling colt by Fastnet Rock.

Montsegur was among a high-class book of mars visiting Blue Point last season.

Heresy becomes the 50th stakes-winner worldwide for Street Boss (USA), who will have a change of scenery in 2021, moving to Darley’s Aberdeen showpiece with a fee of $55,000.
