A Belated Breakthrough for Trifaccia

Mark Smith - Wednesday January 5

Trifaccia has left trail of broken punters in her short career, but the true believers were rewarded at Warwick Farm on Wednesday.

It did not all go to plan in the 1200m maiden for three-year-old fillies. The daughter I Am Invincible was slowly away and James McDonald was desperately searching for a run in the straight.

When the gap opened Trifaccia found enough to overpower the Maurice (JPN) filly Taizai by three-quarters of a length with the Savabeel) filly Po Kare Kare a long head back in third.

Trifaccia had been a beaten favourite in three of her previous six starts, but Godolphin’s Darren Beadman was quick to defend the homebred.

“She has been running in better class races and we have always had a nice opinion of her,” Beadman said.

“She was a bit sticky away and got into a bit of an awkward spot, but class prevailed today.

‘He (McDonald) got her in a nice rhythm. She has a nice turn of foot and he new he had plenty under the bonnet, took the runs as they came and did not get too anxious about it.

“She has been running in Group IIs where they take you out of your comfort zone, but she is starting to get her act together and hopefully she goes on to bigger and better things.”

Trifaccia is the third winner from as many to race out of the Listed GCTC Silk Stocking winner Mascareri.

A daughter of Commands, Mascareri is a sister to the outstanding Appearance.

Trained by Guy Walter for Darley, Appearance won nine of her 19 starts and over $1.7million highlighted by Group 1 wins in the VRC Myer Classic, ATC Coolmore Classic, Queen of the Turf Stakes, and Canterbury Stakes.

Sadly, Mascareri and her I Am Invincible foal died in 2019.
