Skyman Edges Stablemate Oscar Zulu in Rowley Mile

Mark Smith - Thursday August 18

Chris Waller had five of the eleven starters in Thursday’s $165,000 Listed Pioneer Services Rowley Mile Rowley (1600m) at Hawkesbury and supplied the quinella.

The 7yo Mukhadram (GB) gelding Skyman (GB) enjoyed the run of the race under James McDonald to edge out Oscar Zulu (Epaulette) by a half-neck with the frontrunning favourite Cross Talk (Keano) a further length back in third.

A fifth winner in the race for Chris Waller, Skyman was coming off an eight-week let-up after a strong-finishing victory in the Listed McKell Cup at Rosehill. With his second stakes success, Skyman (GB) advances his record to seven six three from 30 starts with earnings of $628,426.

“It was textbook stuff. James kept it simple, sat in the perfect position, stalked, and came off heels,” stable representative Jack Pilkington said.

“I’d say we will keep going through these big handicaps, gradually building him up. He is picking up great prizemoney through his last couple of wins, so it’s onwards and upwards.

“He could go back out to 2000m as well.”

Skyman has more than paid his way after his purchase for $42,000gns at 2019 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale.

The 7yo son of Group 1 Eclipse Stakes winner Mukhadram (Shamardal) is the best of three winners from six to race for the Dalakhani (IRE) mare Skyrider, a sister to Group III Milan Premio Chiusura winner Gothic Dance.

A 42,000gns purchase by Go Racing at the 2019 Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale,.Skyman is one of four stakes winners for former Shadwell Stud stallion Mukhadram.
