So You Think Mare Tastes Stakes Success

Tara Madgwick - Saturday May 20

The Listed SAJC Centaurea Stakes (2028m) delivered a new stakes-winner for So You Think with progressive Kiwi bred staying mare Thought Provoking holding off all challengers to score a determined victory.

Thought Provoking is the tenth Australian SW this season for So You Think - Atkins Photography

Trained by Mick Price and Michael Kent Jr, Thought Provoking ended a frustrating run of three second placings in a row when she led for home and stuck on to win by a head for Ben Melham.

“It is good to have the black-type on her CV, being a mare, and an unlucky one at that,” Melham said.

“This preparation she had no luck first-up and she was a bit unlucky the other day (when second to Unusual Culture at Sandown).

“She broke through for a well deserved win today.”

A $120,000 NZB Book 1 purchase for her trainer from the Windsor Park Stud draft, Thought Provoking has the overall record four wins and six seconds from 14 starts with prizemoney topping $221,000.

A half-sister to Group III placed Zaperb, Thought Provoking is the best of four winners from stakes-winning Zerpour mare Zerello from the family of Group I winning stayer Phizam.

She is the 53rd stakes-winner for So You Think and is his tenth in Australia this season with two more in New Zealand.
