Fourth Win of the Season for Sidestep's Beau Rain

Mark Smith - Friday July 21

With four wins and two seconds from six starts, the 2yo Sidestep gelding Beau Rain has been a little star for trainer Bill Kenning, his latest success coming over 1300m at Townsville on Friday.

Burdened with 60.5kgs, less 2kg for apprentice Isabella Teh, Beau Rain battled tenaciously to defeat the Encryption gelding Decrypting Gold by a neck with Craicaro (Press Statement) a half-length back in third.

From now on, it’s all black ink for owner Adele Kiernan as Beau Rain was sourced by Boomer Bloodstock (FBAA) for $36,000 from the Daandine Stud draft at the 2022 Magic Millions March Yearling Sale.

Beau Rain is the third winner from four to race for the 3-time winning Stromberg Carlson mare Tears, a half-sister to the dao fo Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes winner Single Gaze (Not A Single Doubt) and Listed winner Le Val (Snitzel).

Tears has a yearling and weanling colt by Grandview Stud’s Winning Rupert.

Beau Rain is one of seven 2yo winners of the season for Telemon Stud’s Sidestep, putting him comfortably in the top 20 sires in the nation. Godolphin’s 2yo Sidestep gelding Razors broke his maiden impressively at Wyong on July 15.

The sire of four stakes winners led by the Golden Slipper heroine Kiamichi, Sidestep stands for $8,800 at Telemon Thoroughbreds in 2023.
