One To Watch - Gosford

Mark Smith - Wednesday April 10

Here's one for the blackbook: Seascape, a strapping daughter of I Am Invincible who turned a competitive-looking 2yo handicap over 1100m at Gosford into a walk-in-the-park.

Making her career debut, Seascape jumped best from an outside barrier for Tom Marquand.

The Michael Freedman-trained filly enjoyed an uncontested lead, and when Marquand asked for an effort, the response was instantaneous.

Under minimal urging, Seascape defeated the Capitalist colt Mogul Monarch by four and three-quarter lengths, with the Brutal filly The Eyes Have It a half-length back in third.

"She surprised me a little bit. She has come on in leaps and bounds throughout the preparation," stable representative Sophie Johnson said.

It was a pick-up ride for Tom Marquand after Jason Collett was injured in a fall at Kembla Grange on Monday.

A homebred for Fairway Thoroughbreds, Seascape completed a profitable couple of days for John Camilleri after he sold a brother to Seascape through the Segenhoe Stud draft to Kia Ora / TFI / Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds for $1.15million at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale.

The pair are siblings of the 5-year-old gelding Zarastro. A $1,050,000 yearling, the son of I Am Invincible, has found a new lease on life with Tony Gollan.

Sold for $32,000 on Inglis Digital, Zarastro has won five of his last seven, including the Listed BRC Falvelon Quality and Listed Tatt's QLD Recognition Stakes.

The dam, Adrift (Zabeel), won the Group II Light Fingers Stakes and is a three-quarter sister to triple Group 1 winner Maldivian and half to Karaka Million winner Xiong Feng and to the dam of the Group 1 ARC Railway Stakes and Group II ATC Sheraco Stakes winner Entriviere (Tavistock).

A $700,000 buy at the 2020 Inglis Chairman's Sale, Adrift was covered by Wootton Bassett (GB) last spring.
