Dundeel Day at Inglis Classic

Tara Madgwick - Monday February 10

The very best Dundeel of them all, dual Group I winning $3.4million earner Celestial Legend, was sourced from the Arrowfield Inglis Classic draft back in 2022 for $220,000 and the same sire and same farm produced the highlight horses at Inglis Classic on Monday with a colt and filly by Dundeel selling for $440,000 and $400,000.

$440,000 Dundeel colt from Mother's Mercy

Leading the way and topping the sale to this point was the colt from Mother’s Mercy that was bought by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock.

Bred and offered for sale by Arrowfield, he is the second foal of Mother’s Mercy, a winning three-quarter-sister by Redoute’s Choice to Group I winner Autumn Angel and Group II winner Baraquiel from Group III winner Angel of Mercy.

The colt is bred on the same cross as Dundeel’s Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas winner Super Seth, who was also purchased as a yearling by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock from Arrowfield Stud at the 2020 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for $280,000 and raced in the colours of Jonathan Munz.

The full brother to the $440,000 colt sold at this sale last year for just $60,000, so the second foal of the mare is obviously a big improvement.

Mother’s Mercy had a filly by Castelvecchio last spring before returning to Dundeel.

$400,000 Dundeel filly from Pretty Elsa

The top selling filly on Day 2 of the sale and most expensive filly to date was by Dundeel from Pretty Elsa and was knocked down to M Laurie Racing/ ARJB Racing at $400,000.

A filly whose pedigree took her a long way, she is the second foal of Pretty Elsa, who was bought by Hermitage Thoroughbreds for $1.2million at Inglis Easter in 2019. They retained her first foal, a colt by Maurice (Jpn), who has been named Villa Mauricio with Chris Waller to train.

A winner from just four starts, Pretty Elsa is a half-sister by Exceed and Excel to stakes-winner and blue hen Miss Debutante, the dam of Group I ATC Golden Slipper winner Lady of Camelot and Group winning fillies Platinum Jubilee and Queen of the Ball.

Pretty Elsa produced a filly last year by Maurice (Jpn) and then went to Capitalist.
