$1million Oaks Winner Socks Nation Sold to Japan

Tara Madgwick - Tuesday May 27

A year ago Socks Nation burst on to the scene with a surprise win in the Group I BRC Queensland Oaks and on Tuesday she was one of the stars on offer at the Magic Millions National Sale where she made $1million.

Offered in the Newington Farm Premium Consignment for her owners Iskander Racing and Suman Hedge, Socks Nation will be headed to Japan after being purchased by Katsumi Yoshida.

Socks Nations sold for $1million.

Socks Nation was purchased by Hedge from the Milburn Creek draft at Inglis Premier for $160,000 and had three wins and five placings from 19 starts in the Ciaron Maher stable with prizemoney just shy of $1million.

From a Black Type family best known for producing multiple Group I winner Shogun Lodge, Socks Nation is from the one and only crop of Australian foals by Scat Daddy stallion Sioux Nation (USA), who shuttled to Swettenham Stud for just the one season.

“It’s a surreal feeling to be honest. You buy these horses as yearlings and you’re just hoping to win a race and for her to come out and have won a Group 1 for Sheriff (Iskander), who’s been a huge supporter of mine all my career, is very special,” said Suman Hedge.

“It is a little bit of bittersweet to have to let go, but it’s a very expensive industry and we’ve got a lot of stock.

“Sherrif’s invested so much into the breeding and racing industry, so when the opportunity comes to sell a horse well for a profit you’ve got to take it.

“I’m sure she’s going to go to a great home.”
