Star Colt and Star Filly Highlight Snitzel Day at Magic Millions

Tara Madgwick - Thursday January 15

It was Snitzel day at the Magic Millions on Thursday with Arrowfield Stud’s much missed champion sire, who died last year, producing the top selling filly and colt of the day.

Early in the day the Snitzel filly from Madame Andree sold for $1.6million, read about her here.

Newgate Farm sold the top selling colt with their showstopping bay from Play That Song (NZ) selling to James Harron Bloodstock Colt Partnership/Tony Fung Colts for $1.2million.

$1.2million Snitzel colt from Play That Song (NZ).

He is the first of the Group II winning daughter of influential sire Showcasing (GB), who was bought by Newgate Farm for $530,000 at the 2022 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

“They’re not making any more Snitzels. He’s a really good, strong, purposeful colt, lovely medium size, his mother was a good, sharp two-year-old, so he profiled-up really nicely,” said James Harron.

“He comes off a fantastic farm in Newgate. They’ve got a fantastic record of producing really good horses and that’s a big part of our thought processes and how much confidence we’ve got in investing in these horses.”

This is the second last crop of Snitzel yearlings and James Harron is very aware of the limited edition nature of his stock.

“I thought it was just an incredible line-up of Snitzels, to be honest. I was really pleasantly surprised that there were so many nice ones here,” he said.

“We’ve been able to pick up three now, so we’re really happy. We’re really happy with how they’ve averaged out for us across the three days so far.

“Every weekend he’s in the headlines as a stallion, so it’s a great loss to the industry that he’s not with us anymore, but it’s brilliant that we’ve still got the opportunity to pick up these beautiful colts.”

Play That Song missed in 2024 so had no foal last year and was covered in late December by Extreme Choice.
