Blue Diamond Breeding Fancy

Tara Madgwick - Thursday February 20

I usually leave the Best on Breeding stories to our terrific bloodstock writer Mark Smith, but when scanning the Blue Diamond field this week there was a runner that really caught my eye.

Muntaseera wins at Rosehill in November - image Steve HartI Am Invincible filly Muntaseera has been flying under the radar somewhat and this homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum is one of a six strong team from the powerful Ciaron Maher and David Eustace stable.

On face value, her win and two seconds from three starts stamps her as promising, but nothing super special, however a close look at her pedigree has me intrigued.

Muntaseera is the second foal and second winner from Redoute’s Choice mare Moosirra, an unraced full sister to the Sheikh’s globe-trotting Australian bred international Group I winner Musir.

Moosirra’s dam is stakes-placed Dizzy de Lago, who has had three foals to race and all are Group winners, so the family is top class.

While that is all very positive, the thing that really catches my eye is the double cross of Danzig and Bletchingly, which in this case comes through Canny Lad.

We’ve seen this before and seen it in arguably the two best horses sired by I Am Invincible in Brazen Beau and the supremely talented Libertini.

It’s probably coincidence and Muntaseera has a way to go to be as good as those two, but Sheikh Mohammed Bin Khalifa Al Maktoum won the Blue Diamond in 2015 with Pride of Dubai and if he wins again with this filly I won’t be surprised.
