The Ultra Thoroughbreds colours have been carried by two champions in Shamus Award and Miss Andretti and they combined in the pedigree of this exciting debut winner at Bendigo on Wednesday.

Prepared by Danny O’Brien, who won the Cox Plate with his sire Shamus Award, Embolism was easy in the market, but finished with a rush under Damien Oliver to score a stylish win in the 1300m maiden.

A homebred for Ultra Thoroughbreds, Embolism has been given time to mature and while he’s not entered for the Group I MRC Caulfield Guineas, his trainer believes there is stakes potential for the talented colt this spring.

“He’s a colt we’ve always had a nice opinion of and while he didn’t race at two, we still did a fair bit with him,” O’Brien told Racing.com.

“I think he has a really bright future. The Caulfield Guineas was always going to come up too quick for him, but races like the Carbine Club and Sandown Guineas might suit.

“It would be nice to think he could work his way towards a good race at the end of spring.”

Embolism is the first winner for Peggies Choice, a minor winning full sister to Australian Horse of the Year Miss Andretti, who won 19 races and over $2.5million in prizemoney with five of her victories in Group I events.

Embolism looks another promising stakes contender for Rosemont Stud’s Shamus Award, who also has exciting three year-old Flying Award and quality stayer Mr Quickie to run for him this spring.

The most successful sire son of Snitzel, Shamus Award stands at a fee of $19,800 this spring.

‘Royal Rosemont Week’ has all the Rosemont stallions being presented in virtual parades this week and Shamus Award is the showcased stallion today and can be viewed on Rosemont’s Facebook page from 6pm tonight.
