Sebring Filly Impressive at Sandown

Tara Madgwick - Wednesday March 24

Widden Stud bred and sold Sebring filly Biscayne Bay opened her account with an impressive win at Sandown on Wednesday in the Sun Stud colours.

Prepared by the Lindsay Park training team, Biscayne Bay made her debut in South Australia last month when finishing a distant fifth behind subsequent stakes-winner Scorched Earth in the Magic Millions Adelaide 2YO Classic.

A soft track and step out to 1300m proved just to her liking for her second start and under a cool ride from Mark Zahra she powered home from back in the field to win by two lengths running away.

“I just left her alone early and gave her room and when I went for her, she really quickened up well,” said Zahra.

The stable will let the dust settle before deciding whether Biscayne Bay presses on for another race or spells in preparation for spring.

Biscayne Bay as a yearling.

A $410,000 Magic Millions purchase for Sun Bloodstock from the Widden Stud draft, Biscayne Bay is a half-sister to Group II ATC Reisling Stakes winner Tenley and is the third winner from Fratianne, a winning Lonhro grand-daughter of Group I winner Skating.

Widden Stud purchased Fratianne from a Godolphin Reduction at the 2017 Inglis Australian Broodmare Sale for $185,000, the well related mare coming from the family of Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and Group I winner Juste Momente, who was raced by Widden Stud.

Fratianne produced a filly by Trapeze Artist last spring and is now in foal to Zoustar.

The last crop of Sebring yearlings are proving popular this year with 15 entered for Inglis Easter.
