Te Akau Strike Early and Find Value - $700,000 Snitzel Colt

Tara Madgwick - Sunday April 7

Fresh from Group I success in New Zealand on Saturday with Australian bred two year-old I Am Invincible colt Move to Strike, Te Akau principal David Ellis was straight into the buying groove at Inglis Easter moving early to secure Lot 9 from Newhaven Park, the Snitzel colt from Champion 2YO and 3YO Filly English.

$700,000 Snitzel cotl from English goes to Te Akau Racing.

The second foal of his dual Group I winning dam English, the colt sold for $700,000 which looked outstanding value when you consider her first foal, a colt by I Am Invincible made $1.55million at this sale last year when bought by Kia Ora Stud / TFI / Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott Racing.

“You’re buying from Newhaven Park which is one of the best farms in the world and I thought he was a Golden Slipper style of colt if ever I’ve seen one,” Ellis told Jemma Cutting of Inglis.

He is bred on the exact same Snitzel x Encosta de Lago cross that has produced three other Group I winning juvenile colts in Invader, Summer Passage and Sword of State, who was also bought as a yearling in Australia by David Ellis for $600,000 back in 2020 and raced by Te Akau before retiring to Cambridge Stud.

English produced another filly by Snitzel last year and is now in foal to dundeel.
