So You Think's Punch Lane Dazzling in Glasshouse

Mark Smith - Sunday July 14

Eight days after slamming a field over 1400m at the Sunshine Coast, the talented 4-year-old So You Think gelding Punch Lane landed a massive betting plunge when dispatching a field of talented sprinter/milers over the same track and distance in the $300,000 Listed Tab Glasshouse Hcp (1400m).

Ridden by Kyle Wilson-Taylor for Anthony and Sam Freedman, Punch Lane relished the heavy track to defeat At Witz End by a widening two and three-quarter lengths, with Wategos (Capitalist edging out the Tassie champ The Inevitable (Dundeel) for third.

Winning his first stakes race at his first attempt, Punch Lane advances his record to six wins, a second, and three thirds from 12 starts with earnings of $354,860.

“He pulled up well after last week, as they generally do on wet tracks,” Anthony Freedman said.

“We did nothing with him, and I was happy with him by Tuesday, so it worked out coming to this race."

Anthony Freedman said the race postponement from last week had proved a blessing.

“It played out for us. We wanted to run in this race, but he would not have got a run last week, so we went the low road, and he won before the races were postponed.

“He’s had a great prep, and we will probably stop with him now, but we will find something for him in the spring.”

A $220,000 buy for Bahen Bloodstock Ltd / William Street Syndicate from the Bombora Downs draft at the 2021 Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, Punch Lane is the best of five winners from six to race for the Listed CS Hayes Memorial Cup winner Cybercyn (Staaraq).

Punch Lane a $220,000 Inglis Premier yearling

Tipperary Pastoral bought a sister to Punch Lane for $100,000 when consigned by Bombora Downs to the 2024 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.

After foaling a Rubick filly last spring, Cybercyn visited Alabama Express.

Punch Lane is the 57th black-type winner for Coolmore Stud’s So You Think, currently the third leading sire in the nation after finishing runner-up in his previous two seasons.

The ten-time Group 1 winning son of High Chaparral (IRE) stands at $77,000 in 2024.
